The Power of Hypnosis in Professional Sports and Entertainment
Athletes and entertainers know that their
performance is as much of a mind game as it is the final result. Focus,
concentration, and the determination to win, originate in the mind. The use of
hypnosis in sports and entertainment is more widespread than most people
realize.
Sports hypnosis has been used by athletes for
years. In the 1988 Seoul Summer
Olympics, Greg Louganis hit his head on the board when doing a complex
dive. With his head gushing blood,
he had the wound treated while listened to hypnosis tapes. Greg went on to score a perfect dive
and win the gold medal. Tiger Woods’ father hired a hypnotist for Tiger when he
was just 13. Tiger uses Self Hypnosis to visualize his game and keep away
distractions. Jack Nicklaus openly claims that hypnotherapy and visualization
are the sole reason for his improved levels of concentration during play.
The list of entertainers who used hypnosis is
equally extensive. Florence
Henderson, of the Brady Bunch, Helen Reddy, Bruce Willis, and James Earl Jones,
used hypnosis to overcome a gamut of fears from flying to stuttering.
Hypnosis is a focused state of concentration in
which the individual put themselves into a suggestible state. In this suggestible state, positive
suggestions are given that can change attitudes and beliefs that lead to
changes in their behavior. Hypnosis will remove negative imprints and thoughts
that will improve your game or performance. Whether on the field or the stage,
this is how performance/behavior can be improved.
Hypnotherapy helps you reprogram the
"hard drive" of the mind: your subconscious mind. The
subconscious mind starts developing within the first few moments from birth.
This neuro-programming results in the current beliefs and attitudes you hold
about yourself, your body, and your health. Your subconscious
mind reacts a nano-second ahead of your conscious mind. Just
like the automatic pilot on a planes navigation system, the subconscious mind
is charting the course that has been programmed for your life. You must
go to the subconscious mind and change that to have different outcomes in your
life. Until these beliefs are changed, once and for all, your change will be
temporary at best.
Hopefully, you can see the power of hypnosis by
the effect it had on the lives mentioned above. Now it’s your turn to tap into the power of hypnosis in your
life.
